August 16th, 2007 Meeting Greetings, President Joe Loucka opened the meeting this month at the Henderson City Hall. There was brief discussion about the upcoming special event station scheduled for the BBQ festival. This special event station will be set up behind the Emergency Operations Center in the gated area. This is an idea place to show what our club has to offer. John Adams is going to try to locate the banner and club literature that we can have displayed during this event. We will have access to the Homeland Security Command Trailer and tarps or tents for protection from the elements. Later I will send a group email telling more of the details and asking for volunteers for the event. Barry Smith, treasurer asked us to remind those that have not paid their dues this year that they may contact him. The club dues are only $20 a year for the first person and $10 each additional person living in the same household. We had a guest speaker this month, K9KA, John Smith. John did a fine job of explaining how HF antennas work. He showed pictures of antennas that he has used over the years and explained also how you can take advantage of your guide wires and use these as antennas also. He shared with us a program (YT terrain modeling) that he used to determine how to best use the effective gain of your antenna based on your location and height and take off angle. This was a very informative program on antennas and hopefully those in attendance can use the information he shared to secure them the DXing HF antenna they desire. Those in attendance at this meeting were: Joe & Sue Loucka, John Adams, Loran Newton, Joe Newton, Thad Williams, Jim Helvering, Mickey Burkhead, James Webb, Mike and Louise Burkhead. Barry Smith made a brief stop before having to leave for a conflicting meeting. Louise Burkhead Secretary |
