Chester County Amateur
Radio Club Meeting Minutes June 17,
2010
|
Meeting called to order at 7:00 PM by
President Richard Heisman. Opened by prayer by
Richard England. In attendance: Richard and
Martha England, Richard and Sandy Heisman, Mike
Hurst, Joe and Sue Loucka, Jimmy Helvering, Thad
Williams, Mike and Louise Burkhead, Teresa
Davis. James Griswell, Captain of the Chester
County Rescue Squad was also in attendance. My
apologies to the gentleman from the Jackson
Radio Club, for not being able to remember his
name.
Richard, W4KRU, brought some items
for sale. Some good-quality PL-259’s, and
various small-sized speakers.
Field Day
is coming up, the last full weekend of June.
Pres. Richard advised that he would bring a
generator and a longwire antenna. Richard E. (to
differentiate between our two Richards!),
advised that he would bring a HF transceiver and
vertical antenna. Joe said he will bring another
HF rig. Mike will bring a 2 meter rig and power
supply, and Ringo antenna. Will convene at
Chickasaw State Park at 10:00 AM, at the
pavilion at lakeside, below the Chickasaw
Restaurant. The Club has leased the pavilion for
the day. Louise will start cooking a pork
tenderloin around 10:00. She will bake, or
otherwise BBQ this tenderloin. Should be ready
for consumption around 2:00 PM. Everyone bring
his own drinks, potato chips, etc., and any
“cold food” that you wish. Bring plenty of water
and beverages (non-alcoholic, of course!) to
stay hydrated. The temperature should be “really
scorching”, if the current heat wave persists!
Club decided to purchase a new 3 ft. by 6 ft.
banner, “Chester County Amateur Radio Club”.
President Richard will put article in local
newspaper about our Field Day activity. The
public is invited.
Joe reminded us that
we need a new picture of the entire club, for
the website.
Jackson Radio Club will be
holding their Field Day activity at the BMX
Park, (I think the name if Fred Young BMX Park),
just south of Norton Hill, off Highway 45 south
of Jackson.
VP Joe wants to line up
persons to do presentations for future club
meetings. The next program will probably be a
club activity to build an rf probe. Joe can
provide simple kits for the probe. This probe is
used with a VOM (or voltmeter) to measure RMS
voltage. Joe asked for suggestions for future
programs, and one suggestion was discussion of
antennas. The subject of antennas is a broad and
deep topic. Antenna theory would help us
understand them better. Richard E. advised that
he could cover different antennas, and perhaps
how to build them.
Scheduled a “tailgate
party” at the Chester County High Schooll
parking lot on July 24, from 0900 until…
Breakfast at Jack’s Restaurant (adjacent to CCHS
parking lot) at 0700.
Vice Pres. Joe made
a great presentation on what repeaters are, how
they operate, tips on operation courtesy, etc.
Joe advised that the new Club repeater is in
service, and been operating for about two weeks.
Joe has done countless hours’ work on the new
repeater, particularly on the controller. He has
upgraded the controller to a “smart controller”.
We thank Joe for his dedicated work on the
repeater. Keeping an amateur repeater operating
in such a high-RF environment is a monumental
task. Many thanks, Joe.
It was a great club
meeting, and everyone enjoyed it very much.
