Chester County Amateur Radio Club
Meeting Minutes
April 16, 2009
Vice President Joe Loucka called the meeting to order at
7:00 PM, in the Activities Building of the Henderson
Church of Christ.
Thanks to Kevin and Hollie for providing the evening's
munchie goodies, and were enjoyed by all! It was
decided that everyone would provide some
food/refreshments at the next meeting. It will be a
cook-out/meeting....an "eating-meeting"! Request that
Richard bring his grill, and everyone coordinate with
Sue on what each can volunteer to bring.
There is a free Hamfest at Bartlett this weekend (April
18). We understand that MFJ and Memphis Amateur
Electronics will be represented there. The "fest" was
heavily attended last year...."standing room only"!
Cedar City Sales will not be at our "hamfest", scheduled
to coincide with the Chester County Barbecue Festival.
So, we may just call it a "tail-gate fest", or "swap
fest", or something of the like. Will decide more
later.
Club decided we need to get new name badges, to indicate
the club name change," Chester County Amateur Radio
Club". Will get a membership roster of those paid-up,
and pursue the project.
Kevin Roeder presented the program for the evening, on
LED's, or light-emitting diodes. Kevin explained what
these devices are, and presented some easy-to-construct
projects using LED's. He showed how to hook them up in
series and parallel, explained voltage drops across
each, needed values of dropping resistors, voltage that
they work at, etc. LED's are useful as pilot lights,
flashlights, emergency flashing lights, and general
light sources. He explained also that using different
specialty lenses for LED's can direct and concentrate
(or disperse) light, making them of further utility.
Also, they are power-saving little jewels! Great for
emergency lighting. Thanks, Kevin, for a great
presentation.
Four new hams are the result of our latest VE testing
session. One is Teresa Davis from here in Henderson.
Congratulations, Teresa, and also congrats to the other
three.
President Ron Means has not heard from the
re-coordination application for the 14.105 repeater. He
also stressed the need to appoint a coordinator for
the swap fest, coming up in early October. Also, next
month (May, 2009) is the meeting to nominate for
officers of the club. New officers commence their terms
in June. Ron also said Field Day is coming up for
weekend of June 27-28, 2009. Field Day is always fun,
albeit somewhat hot!!
A good attendance at the club meeting. Joe Austin,
Dexel Burns, Neil Granger, Ray Eaton, Ron Means, Greg
Lipford, Barry Smith, Kevin and Hollie and little Gary
Roeder, Gary Roeder, Joe and Sue Loucka, Mike and Louise
Burkhead, John Adams, Jimmy Helvering, Thad Williams,
Mike Hurst, and Teresa Davis. Hope I did not miss
anyone.
Meeting adjourned at 8:00 PM
Mike Burkhead, K4TC
