Chester County Amateur Radio Club
Meeting Minutes
February 17, 2011

Meeting called to order at 1900 by President Dick Heismann, at our latest meeting venue, the City of Henderson's Fire Station No. 1.

In attendance:  Joe and Sue Loucka, Richard and Martha England, Dick Heismann, Barry Smith, Kevin Roeder, Greg Flanagan, N4GMF, Tom Goodman, AI4DB, Mike and Louise Burkhead, Dan Sullivan, K4SDX, Lauralei Russell, KJ4ZCX, and Eugene Branscum, KI4UYU.

We will be starting a net on the two meter band, to be held on the third Fridays of the month, at 1900, on the W4FHU repeater (147.105+, 156.7 PL tone).  I informed the Club that there is a net conducted each Tuesday night at 1915, called the Tennessee Valley Emergency Net, on 146.550 Mhz. simplex.  This Net originates in Henderson County.

President Heismann reported that he and Ron (W5DAT) has done considerable work on the ARES Communications Bus.

Joe (AG4QC) showed an example of the J-Pole antenna for the two-meter band that was to have been the topic for the January meeting.  The January meeting was cancelled due to the heavy snowfall.  The J-Pole will be the topic for the March meeting.  Joe modified his original J-Pole by adding a ferrite bead decoupling balun, which will enhance the antenna's performance.

Joe (AG4QC) presented the meeting's program, "Grounding and Lightning Protection".  We all learned several good pointers on the characteristics of lightning, and methods of protecting our ham equipment from the devastating power of lightning and transient power spikes.  A very good program with info we all could use.  Thanks, Joe!

We were happy to have some fellow amateur radio operators attend the meeting, from Decatur County.  We welcome Dan, Eugene, and Lauralei, and sincerely hope that each of you enjoyed the meeting, and hope you can become "regulars" at the Club meetings.  We stress that anyone can attend the Club meetings, anytime, and you do not have to be a member of the Chester County Amateur Radio Club.  You are more than welcome, and encouraged to attend.  We appreciate your attendance.

Meeting adjourned at 2020.
