Freed-Hardeman University ARC Meeting Minutes September 9, 2004 President Kevin Roeder, KU4RT, opened the meeting at 7:00 PM. 14 members and 1 visitor in attendance. Club Secretary Ronald Means’ work schedule does not permit his attendance, and requested to be replaced. A nomination for Mickey Burkhead, KI4DTQ, was made, and unanimously elected. Joe Loucka, AG4QC, talked on improvements on the 147.105 repeater, installing emergency battery power equipment. The batteries should be in place and operational in about 2 weeks. Ron, W5DAT, received approval from the Chester County Chamber of Commerce to set up a table during the BBQ Festival (Sept. 25) at the gazebo on the city green, across from First State Bank main office. This will be on Saturday morning, and plan to set up an HF, 2-meter, APRS stations, etc. Those volunteering to be present and assist are K4TC Mike, KC4UFZ James, W5DAT Ron, KE5IZ Gary, W1LSU Dan, KI4DTQ Mickey, AG4BD Louise. Others are welcome to drop in at any time to assist/operate, etc. Kevin will do a Power-Point presentation at the gazebo on Amateur Radio for any interested persons who stop by the station. Beverly Means, KG4WKI , advised that the CC Chamber of Commerce needed volunteers to help during the BBQ Festival, if any of the Club wanted to assist. Ron, W5DAT, will teach a No-Code Technician class at Henderson City Hall, starting Monday night, Sept. 27, at 6:30 PM. The class will run about 7 weeks. Cost---$60.00 total ($40 for class, $20 for study book). Will advise the Jackson Radio Club, etc., if anyone in the area wanted to take the class. Ron, W5DAT, did a presentation on the Chester County ARES System. He attended the Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) Conference at Pickwick Dam State Park. Had a training session, ending with an Emergency Operations Center (EOC) Activation exercise at the end of the two-day Conference. Ron explained the mission of the ARES system. An ARES exercise is being planned for later in the year. Chester Co. ARES has 16 members at this time. A Storm Spotters Class is scheduled for October 14, the regular meeting night, in the Courtroom of the Public Safety Building, at 6:30 PM. The Public Safety Building is across the street from Henderson City Hall. Many thanks to Ron and Beverly Means for providing refreshments for the meeting. The fellowship was great! Thanks to Ron for providing the door prizes. A nice activity! Meeting adjourned at 8:15 PM.
